Michael Howlett is based in Mellor on the outskirts of the Peak District, and developed his love for portrait photography out of an awakening to experiencing the world in a fresh and unconstrained way. He has a unique ability to capture the energy of a tiny moment, a fascination with the qualities of light, and an easy and relaxed way of connecting with others.

Using the transient colours, textures and shapes of nature as a vibrant backdrop, Michael creates affecting photographs which have the capacity to show you yourself and your world in new and different ways every time you look at them.

Like a vivid dream can open for a dreamer hidden layers of perspective, his vision is that, by looking at a photograph on your wall, whether of you, your child, your lover, your family or of something more abstract, you can be transported from the here and now to another place, a place of mystery and possibility, where you can live awhile.
